[^^^]Portland Makes Music: Congratulations, Old Believers
[EXSTATIC POP] I’ve called a few local bands “my favorite” in these pages over the years, and I’ve always meant it at the time. But Eskimo and Sons, the epic pop outfit helmed by talented primary songwriter Dhani Rosa and golden-voiced co-vocalist Danielle Sullivan, is like my favorite favorite. Two favorites. And tonight Eskimo and Sons reform as Congratulations at our monthly Portland Makes Music show, along with the similarly fantastic folk-pop group the Old Believers. Expect lots of youthful energy and some fantastic new songs from both crews. It’s not my birthday, but this is the best present ever. CASEY JARMAN. 9:30 pm. 125 NW 5th Ave., 248-1030. Free. 21+.

Valentine’s | 232 SW Ankeny St., 248-1600 | more info
[^^^]Ages, Saw Whet
[AVIAN FOLK-POP] This show not only boasts one of the first performances by Ages, the new band fronted by Tim Perry (Pseudosix) but also an opening set by Becky Dawson, the lovely singer-songwriter and Ah Holly Fam’ly member who plays under the name Saw Whet. Dawson has a jazzy swing to her voice, the kind that is too often wasted on drunken versions of “Summertime” at karaoke bars. Thankfully, she uses it to anchor her lovely and affecting folk-pop tunes. ROBERT HAM. 9 pm. 232 SW Ankeny St., 248-1600. Free. 21+.

White Eagle Saloon | 836 N Russell St, 503-282-6810 | more info
