Viva Voce Become Another Portland Supergroup

vivavoceIf your first thought upon seeing this little photo here is “wait, I thought Viva Voce is a duo?” well, you’re not the only one. It seems that Kevin and Anita Robinson, the happily married couple behind Viva Voce, have taken a lesson from their other band—country rock supergroup Blue Giant—and decided that playing music is more fun with other people around. Viva Voce is now a quartet with the addition of Corrina Repp (Tu Fawning) and Evan Railton (Swords, Blue Giant), and the new songs are reportedly “more angular”—which really just means that it was made by four people instead of two. Hell, as long as Anita still rips that crazy double-necked guitar, I’m sure it sounds good. The band is planning to unveil a new record later in ‘09, and have a tour and homecoming gig with the Shaky Hands set for March 28.

Today also marks the official release of Blue Giant’s excellent Target Heart EP, which I’m reviewing in the paper next week. If you buy either the CD or Vinyl (which should be out in a few months) you can an instant download of the whole EP, including “Gone For Good,” which is a duet with Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney fame. Get ‘em while they’re hot!
