If you’ve been to a house show in North Portland (or if you ever read the comments left on LocalCut) then you’ve probably run into Travis Wiggins. Dude is seriously one of the nicest—and most prolific—musicians around town. Last week Wiggins sent me a link to a free download of his band Please Step Out of the Vehicle’s performance at the Banana Stand for its CD release show back in August. And aside from a few minor glitches, the sound quality is good—which is totally rad because the set kicks some serious ass. Besides playing a few tunes from the new record, Wiggins and Co. also unleash a rad set of covers: Danial Johnston’s “Walking the Cow,” the Brian Wilson tune “Vegetables” (part of the original session for Smile that he rerecorded in 2006), and a gem from the Sonics. It’s a record collectors wet dream! Wiggins also just started DJing every first Thursday at Ground Kontrol, and you know dude spins some serious vinyl. this was the cd release show for LO-Fi SUMMER. we were basically in our existential bar band mode as this was also our tour kickoff show. a lot of these songs will be featured on the 2 albums we have recorded but can’t afford to release at the moment and there are some from
