September was a downright incredible month for Portland releases. Two of the finest, in our humble opinions here at the Dub Dub, were the new Talkdemonic record and the new Horse Feathers record. And when I say record, I mostly mean CD. But both albums did come out on vinyl as well. And you might know that when you’re in a band and you’re making some vinyl, you gotta see how it sounds before you commit to making a ton of expensive records. Which is where test pressings come in. Bands usually get a tiny handful of test pressings—sometimes only one—thus making them extremely rare artifacts.

So if we were to offer up two vinyl test pressings—one from Talkdemonic’s Eyes at Half Mast and one from the upcoming vinyl reissue of Horse Feathers’ Words are Dead—for the first person that answered one simple question, that would be a big deal. An even bigger deal if the test pressings were autographed by the members of each band.

We’d be crazy to offer that kind of contest. But BAM! That’s what we’re doing! Here’s the question:

“What band was Kevin O’Connor in with Justin Ringle of Horse Feathers before they enjoyed fame and riches in their current groups?”

Come on, dudes. Somebody out there knows the answer to this question. The first correct answer that shows up in my inbox at cjarman (at) wweek dot com wins both LPs.

If you’re not quick enough, you can still order the Talkdemonic vinyl (so pretty) through Arena Rock records, or pre-order Horse Feathers’ Words Are Dead on vinyl (never before released on wax, it comes out on Oct. 28) through Lucky Madison once they get it togetha over there. (Meanwhile, the new Horse Feathers record, House With No Home, is available now via Kill Rock Stars—the LP is cheaper than the cd!). Also, don’t miss these bands on tour.
