Big Bag-O-Blog Stuff: Spin, WFMU, Stereogum, Tiny Mixtapes go for PDX, Muxtape Sinks, YACHT Rules

Let’s line ‘em up and knock ‘em down, shall we?
1. Spin Magazine was at the Stephen Malkmus video party at Valentine’s last weekend, and they’ve got the de-pantsing photo of WW/LC contributor Jay Horton to prove it. The Spin blog follows up on Jay Horton’s own profile of DJ Dantronix, and links to LocalCut’s exclusive clip of the video without actually, you know, crediting LocalCut or Jay Horton. ‘S all good. They also misspell Britt Daniel’s name, so we’ll take it in stride.
[UPDATE: Ok, this one was me being really shitty and snarky and I shouldn't have posted it like this. Portland writer/blogger Travis Greenwood goes way back with the director, Dan Woods, and he didn't lift anything from WW or LocalCut in writing the spin blog post. He's a good dude and I feel like a huge jackass for insinuating that he ripped us off or something. He wrote his own blog post from his own information and that video was totally fair game, as it is public and embeddable. The snark was just me being stupid and territorial and jealous. I wish we would have run a follow-up post as cool as Spin's. I hope Travis and the folks at Spin will accept my apology on this. 'Twas against my better judgment.]
2. Perhaps the world’s greatest radio station, WFMU, posted a big-ol’ roundup of Portland music, unearthing free downloads from some of Stumptown’s finest (and strangest) musical projects, while pointing out some fun facts about our fair city, including the fact that “The term “rad” is still heavily used.” Is that just a Portland thing? Rad!
3. New YACHT video at Stereogum. You Decide!
UPDATE: Upon further review I realize I’ve done a great disservice to that YACHT video by giving it the “You Decide!” treatment. Judah Switzer’s (full disclosure: a bro of mine) video is a parody of the Cusack/Robbins movie Tapeheads, which I saw like a year ago and it took me a second viewing to remember why this plot seemed so familiar. This is almost a scene for scene update of one of that film’s funnier moments. Couldn’t find a clip of the video they shot in Tapeheads, but here’s another video the pair shot in the film, this one an advertisement for Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. I wouldn’t have called this movie a cult classic before, but now that YACHT and Switzer have so alby parodied it, I’d say it qualifies.
HERE IT IS!!!!!! SCENE FOR SCENE!!!!!! THIS SO DESERVES ITS OWN POST!!!!

4. Karl Blau is from Anacortes, but I like this quote from his interview with Tiny Mix Tapes so much I’m making him an official Portlander: “I like cutting off the world at Portland to Vancouver and creating this—this is my world.” Pretty much LocalCut’s mision statement!
5. Muxtape.com is dead. Temporarily, we hope. That means that back-episodes of Michael Mannheimer’s groundbreaking In The Mux series aren’t working correctly and future episodes are hereby put on hold. We’re bummed, but hope for a quick solution.
Spin photog Josh Elliot is to thank for that epic Stephen Malkmus dude photo. Thanks to Jay Horton, Arya Imig and Google for the tips.

Jason Simms
says:I love the additional pause before he explains why he would be crying in the YACHT version.
