Grey Anne (the Artist Formerly Known as Per Se) Signs to Greyday, Announces Album
One has to wonder, upon hearing the news that local experimental pop maven Grey Anne/Per Se has signed up with the lovely local label, Greyday, whether she knew this when selecting her new alias. It’s just a bit too close for comfort, isn’t it? Grey Anne? Greyday? In any case, there she is, the newest member of the Greyday (home to LC tour diarist Southerly, ass-kicker LKN and others) roster. Anne Adams was kind enough to pass me a copy of her album (recently given a name, Facts N Figurines) a few months back, and frankly you just need to hear it. (Though it’s worth knowing that her official tracklisting doesn’t feature “Darling Don’t You Go,” perhaps my favorite track! What will become of it? Can I have it?)
We’ve known for a long time that she was a PDX up-and-comer, with her jazz singer vocals, ingenious songs and incredible, off-kilter stage presence, but it’s reassuring to hear that three months from now her music can hurry up and start reaching a wider audience.
Here’s Anne playing a slightly glitchy but absolutely charming version of “Pennies From Heaven,” doing what she does best with the loop pedal as a band: (sorry, I’m slow) at Doug Fir!
You can also hear Anne Adams on WW’s Portland Lounge Series.
Grey Anne Signs To Greyday Records
After a long flirtation with various local labels, I’ve signed Grey Anne up with Greyday Records.
Brand serendipity notwithstanding, I look forward to publishing with Greyday. Manager Todd seems devoted to supporting non-genre artists who work on their own terms, and Greyday’s roster includes road-tested talents Minmae and Southerly, and brave mavens LKN and Piney Gir.
CD Release Date Set
The long-languishing Per Se album that I sometimes refer to as ‘the lost album of Atlantis,’ has been officially titled Grey Anne–facts n figurines. On November 11, its existence will be proven to skeptics, and it will be available, once and for all, for listening and purchase. It’ll feature the following 11 tracks:
1-golden ratio
2-adelaide
3-flapjack devilfish flies again
4-riddle
5-last call
6-superlazy
7-the sun
8-the liking
9-naughty heart clean
10-trying
11-chinese new yearThese tracks have been wrangled together through several recording sessions, over years of elapsed time. Looking forward to getting them out of my hair and into the world, so I can focus on more recording of my latest work.
Regards,
~Grey Anne (formerly of Per Se)

says:“Grey Anne,” “Greyday.” I know. Suspiciously auspicious. But totally innocent. Mama Flora would corroborate my longer history with that nickname.
No less weird was the fact that, when providing Todd (of Greyday) with my web codes, I had to cop to having chosen “heyday” as an old email address.
Heyday, Greyday, Grey Anne, (or Paraguay). Sometimes you just need a word that is lovely to say.
Besides, when it comes to spelling “Grey,” I’m just going to trendspot typography and say, “e” is the new “a.” A points down or to the past, “E” is outstretched toward the future.

says:The above question was posed in haste; not worth it if it’s gonna change my focus for the day.
Greyday, album. Album, Greyday.
The trend is “e-Grey,” and the trend also must be holding birds.
Signing off,
~Grey Anne.

says:that this young thing got (in the same A&E) twice the column-line coverage in The Oregonian as did Dawn Upshaw - a world-class vocalist with a decades-long career performing masterful works by some of the world’s leading composers - says all that need be said for the head-banging illiterati of the something-something de-generation with which the media is so fascinated
