Sometimes we’re so excited about a show that we send two people to it. It happened Tuesday night at Dekum Manner.

At the Music In The Schools Benefit this May, members of Shaky Hands proclaimed they’d like to make the most of summer by playing benefits and house shows. The four-piece definitely made good on that plan at Dekum Manor last night when playing alongside Here Comes the Big Black Cloud, the Vonneguts and World’s Greatest Ghosts.

Activities kicked off around 8:30, with World’s Greatest Ghosts performing first in the living room. After a quick transition, the Vonneguts stepped up the plate, snarling away and whipping up the crowd into a mosh-pit (!) of energy. It must be noted, sadly, that it was the trio’s final show with Jamey on drums.

The sweaty room expanded enough to include crowd-surfing by the time Here Comes the Big Black Cloud played its show (the first in a while after being out on the road). The circus-like group arrived in Portland only hours before its set. In addition to the group’s original songs, a Bo Diddly (R.I.P.) cover found its way in to the band’s set.

The final act of the night was of course the aforementioned Shaky Hands, playing its second show with Nathan Delffs on drums, having introduced him to the world at large (in this new capacity, at least) via the Mississippi Street Fair last weekend. While the two look rather dissimilar, Nathan is indeed brother to frontman Nicholas Delffs and you could tell while they performed they had a special bond different to the one extending to all band members. The pair interacted without interacting. To begin the set, the redheaded Mayhaw Hoons traded his bass to pick up drumsticks for a percussion-heavy opening. Second song of the night? A Dead Moon cover. The show boiled, with sweaty shirts being peeled off left and right (by the band and audience alike).
