Almost Nearly, Starfucker, Get Lost in the Gospel
It seems like everyone is getting on the Take-Away show bandwagon. Fortunately, local group Lost Gospel is adding a little twist to the usual “band walks down the street singing to bemused onlookers” shtick. Instead of just filming a video with no audience, why not invite a ton of kids to the event, throw a wicked mock-pool party, and see how it turns out?
Tomorrow night, lo-fi dance-poppers Starfucker will play live in a kiddie pool. With no water, so they don’t go and get all electrocuted. And then on Sunday afternoon Almost Nearly and Glass Teeth are playing a “mobile” gig, walking from the Goodwill Bins down to an abandoned train car for what might be (we’ve heard some rumors) the final Almost Nearly show [see comment below. -ed]. And you can join in on all the fun! Here’s all the info:
Saturday July 19th at 7pm: Starfucker Pool Party!
We’re taking over a vacant lot on Belmont right between 34th and 35th. Starfucker perform at 7pm sharp inside a kiddie pool (sans water) with the help of a generator! Expect a half hour set far from the norm! We’ve got beach balls, innertubes and fun noodles galore to play with. Swimwear and lawn chairs are encouraged!Sunday July 20th at 5pm: Glass Teeth and Almost Nearly play a mobile gig + an abandoned train car!
Meet at SE 17th and Ochoco - across the street from Goodwill Bins. Glass Teeth will lead us down the train tracks in song until we reach an abandoned train car where Almost Nearly will be waiting, ready to perform an acoustic set!
I know we’ve been repping Starfucker pretty hard ’round these parts, but a free show/pool party always piques our interest. One important question, though: How are we expected to use all the rad water toys (innertubes, fun noodles) without any, umm, ya know, water. I think the Cranberries might have an idea about that…
In other news, Starfucker will have copies of its first ever professional release ready for PDX Pop Now! It’s a nice and pretty lil 7-inch record that includes my current favorite summertime jam “Ahhz,” which I’ve been rocking on repeat since the added it to the ole MySpace profile a few weeks ago.
These shows should be a lot of fun, and they make a lot of sense—it’s always fun to see a music in a non-traditional venue, and, especially in Portland, outside—where the weather the last month has sure made up for the rainy and cold double-winter that lasted through Memorial day.

says:Change it to Almot Nearly? I gotta say, Nicole, I think that’s a mistake. Okay, totally fucking with you, sorry. But changing the name after this show would still make it the last Almost Nearly show, right?
From Lost Gospel’s blog:
“Psssst: This could be Almost Nearly’s final gig as the group exists now, so be sure to come. If not for the breezy tunes, then to see a curtain fall.”
