MusicfestNW Announces Nuts Partial ‘08 Lineup
Among the perks of working for the same company that puts on Portland’s annual MusicfestNW weekend (insomuch as Wednesday through Saturday night is a weekend) is getting to hear MFNW director Trevor Solomon randomly holler out names of awesome bands as the festival approaches (occasionally while in the midst of profanity-laced tirades). Today, though, all those individual band names look more impressive than ever, lined up as they are in the following press release. So, without further ado, here’s what you’ll be doing seeing during the first week of September:
MusicfestNW is pleased to announce that wristbands for this year’s MFNW, which will be held September 3rd through 6th, are officially on sale. The wristband costs $50 and that will guarantee you no cover at all MFNW clubs, which will be showcasing some of music’s hottest acts during the annual 4 day festivity held in Portland, Oregon. Be sure to check musicfestnw.com/tix for all the details about the wristband, tickets, as well as this year’s special VIP pass.
We here at MFNW are proud to announce the following bands that will be participating in this year’s festival. Be sure to keep checking musicfestnw.com for updates and additional bands as well as for the final schedule on July 31, 2008:

The record shop nerd in me flips pretty hard over Polvo, Seaweed and Mogwai. The internet nerd in me loves Dan Deacon, TV On the Radio and the Cool Kids. In any case, I think it’s turning out to be a pretty well-rounded fest, with a few of the bigger names still to be revealed. And I’m not just saying that because I work here.
Question becomes, which one of these bands’ sets will be responsible for this year’s “oh shit” moment? Last year, you’ll remember, a lot of folks thought it was Girl Talk. Mogwai and the reunited Murder City Devils have already been discussed around here…

says:I never thought I would get to see Polvo live. Bully bully! I will build a machine to take with me to the show that will slow time to a stop and make their set last forever.
Resolved: “Celebrate the New Dark Age” is the best EP of all time.
Also, a very strong local big-wigs line-up.

says:Yeah, that’s a good point Manny. Given that even the more rock-ish fests out there are giving dance acts at least token billing, this almost seems almost intentionally exclusive of it.

says:re:electronic acts - keep in mind this is only a partial list. for example, Copy is playing the Dan Deacon show along with Dykeritz.
as for me, i’m mostly psyched for DEL.

(post author) says:del will be sweet. i think metal fans are going to be stoked when they see more of the lineup, too. i have very little insight into the voodoo that makes this thing happen every year, though, so i can’t shed much light on the electronic situation. maybe the other good national acts are in europe in september or something? anyway, lots of good fringey indie rock stuff i’m stoked on. and i hope U.S.E. is ending the whole fest. they’re so cheesy!

says:pete: murder city also reunited for the 2006 (or was it 2005?) capitol hill block party. but shit, i missed them that time. i’m geeking out pretty hard over this lineup. especially del, deerhunter, past lives, and TVOTR (whom i’ve seen like five times, but it doesn’t matter because they’re so fucking awesome).
shit. i better book a hotel room.
