UPDATED BEFORE I EVEN POSTED THIS ISH: According to producer Zebulon Dak, the new Oldominion album , entitled Make Happy, will be available for the first time ever (and for the last time in a while, sounds like) at tonight’s Berbati’s show. From the SuperHappyWax message board: “I will tell you that there is a song on there called Big Blind. And also that Niqwil is on the album more than once. And that even though we will have copies available at the show on friday, I’m still sitting here at the studio less than a week away trying to finish the last couple of songs.” He says the disc should see wider release in the near future, but damn does this make my original post even more criminal:

There’s a lot going on in this city tonight, and we told you about quite a bit of it (both here online and in our paper). What we didn’t tell you about—due to bad timing and my own personal oversight—was the Oldominion 10-year anniversary. Followers of Northwest hip-hop know that this is a feature-worthy (if not cover-worthy) event, and had I known about the show earlier I certainly would have made it my personal mission to give it due coverage.

Very lame of me to not catch this in time for publication. Very lame.

Speaking of Oldominion, though, we all knew the super crew operated slowly, but wasn’t it September ‘06 that I reported on Oldominion being back in the studio as a big unit? Whatever happened to that? Zebulon Dak was keeping a (now disappeared) recording diary. It was about the same time that Smoke’s (excellent) album Bleed came out. And the last time I heard from Peegee13 and Barfly was that Taco Neck track. Either I’m sleeping, or the fellas (and ladies) from Oldominion need to hit me with some updates.

Now more than ever, as Northwest hip-hop (some of it stellar, some of it a tad wack) gains momentum, we need Oldominion. So I hope tonight’s show is indicative of much more fire to come.

Lastly, I do take some solace in knowing that the MCs, DJs and producers that make up Oldominion are just as scattered as I am (for example: Despite the show, Oldominion’s official MySpace page hasn’t been touched for five months). But not much solace. Mostly I just feel real lame for missing this show.
