As we breathlessly await the arrival of True Instigator (Fernando Viciconte’s upcoming Americana release with ’90s band members Joe Chiusano and Daniel Eccles), let’s travel back to 2006’s Enter To Exit. A critically-lauded collection of Beatlesy pop and countrified melancholy, today’s selection “The Devil’s in the Sky” falls decidedly in the latter camp. Frontier-noir pedal steel saunters though indie murder balladry as the northwest roots legend’s inimitable vocals wring out every drop of heartache. If you haven’t read, rumors of career-threatening throat troubles proved untrue, and, listening to the track, thank the stars.
