Decemberists to Rock with Barack on the Waterfront Sunday
Oh those sly Obama campaign managers. First they announce that Barack Obama will making an appearance on the waterfront this Sunday, setting into motion an inevitable RSVP frenzy. Now comes news that the Decemberists will perform in support of the increasingly presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee. But do they come out and say the Decemberists will be striking up its chords for the candidate? Not quite. Obama’s site instead decided to test your name knowledge of the not-so-mysterious Capitol-signed act.
Join Barack Obama at a rally in Portland on Sunday, May 18th.

Doors Open: 12:30 p.m.Special Guest Performance by: Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query, and John Moen
The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required, but an RSVP is strongly encouraged. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis.
See those five names listed as giving a guest performance? Maybe they were trying to throw a fork in the road of the RSVP rush or something by not just coming out and saying “the Decemberists?” Well, it doesn’t take a detective…
Anyway, if your heart aches to hear “Landlord’s Daughter” or “After the Bombs” this Sunday, you should know that the program begins at 2:30 pm after doors open at 12:30pm. Part of me hopes the five-piece covers “Barack OBollywood”:

says:I like the Decemberists, but Meloy’s Sam Cooke covers album is fairly boring. I reviewed it a few weeks ago in my weekly column.

says:ok amy mccullough, i jus read yr review. i haven’t heard the record, but i’ll take yr word for it.
you just caint fuck with sam cooke. i love recording covers and hearing other musicians do covers, but some shit is just unfuckwithable.
also, if anyone else saw the decemberists open for the violent femmes at the bite a few years back, what the fuck was up with chris funk thrashing that pedal steel? i could really use a pedal steel guitar, but since i have no money, i can’t afford one.
