Boy Eats Drum Machine Offers Free Album Online

Not the new one, mind you. BEDM’s 2001 self-titled demo disc is currently available for free download via his MySpace blog (link below). Nice to hear where it all began (these tracks remind me a bit of Bowie’s late-’90s/early-’00s stuff). And Billy Idol’s Cyberpunk album*. A bit more unce-uncey than his latest work, which is still beat-heavy but sorta omni-directional. Here’s what Jonny Ragel noted about the demos on his ’space:

title: boy eats drum machine (2001)
track listing:
01 in your mind I
02 supposed to love (forever)
03 in the sky
04 under water
05 indie rock killer
06 let’s get everything started
07 (we never) wanted it
08 in your mind II
09 on the ground
10 reprisecirculation: 100 hand made copies
production notes: the entire album was composed on an MPC 2000. most samples were made using a four track cassette recorder, guitar, and a nord micro modular. the songs were then tracked onto an imac G3 233 using digital performer. vocals were then overdubbed. ‘under water’, for instance, was simply recorded from the MPC. it is essentially a MPC performance.
other notes: special thanks to Danny Seim, who scanned my artwork and did the album layout, engineered the vocal for ’supposed to love’, and printed and hand packaged the 100 copies of the cd while working graveyard shifts at kinkos.
That Danny Seim shows up everywhere. I think we ought to add “The Inevitable” as his official title. Like The Uncanny X-Men or The Amazing Spiderman.

*Ok, truth is it doesn’t sound too much like Billy Idol’s Cyberpunk album. But it’s basically my mission in life to get more people to hear that album.
