Ratatat “Cherry (Easter Egg Remix),” Unreleased
Ratatat’s “Cherry” has been described by many a source as one of the best jams for making-out to if Al Green and Barry White don’t just cut it for you. A couple hallmarks of the track—its lack of lyrics and meandering chord progression—have been well-preserved in this Easter Egg remix, but improved upon just as same. Easter Egg dances “Cherry” up quite a bit with some new beats, while also adding a few seconds of faint vocals mid-way through, for good measure. Even with Easter Egg’s obvious touch to the track, the original feel of the tune remains while a whole new appeal is achieved, only upping the sweetness factor.

says:I’ll start: Young MC, “Bust A Move,” which I presume means this is a sample of a sample. Thanks for the rad track, Nilina (and Easter Egg)!

says:I’m definitely hearing the “WOO!” “YEAH!” from Lyn Collins’ “Think (About It),” which has been used in TONS of hip hop songs, most notably in Rob Base’s “It Takes Two.” (I also had a 12″ single of “Iko Iko” by The Belle Stars back in the day, which used the same exclamations in the remix.)

says:Bust a Move! It Takes Two! Oh, duh! That’s the tune I couldn’t think of and the one that made me send out that thinly-veiled lifeline. I kept thinking of Dee Lite’s “Groove is in the Heart” and 2 In A Room’s “Wiggle It” (both of which have rad videos on YouTube). I even thought maybe it was a Young MC song I knew that yea/woo from, but had to do stupid “work” and gave up my YouTube digging. I was having a total block on Rob Base though. Nice to know where that sample comes from originally, thanks!
And Adam: Anything is possible. ‘Specially ‘cuz these Easter Egg kids are rocking masks and dayglo. Maybe they’ll drop some knowledge for us.

says:Hey thanks for the good words everyone! To answer the sample questions, there is no AIH.
I sampled:
High Powered Boys - “Hoes Get Down”
Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock -” It Takes Two” (Which samples “Think About It” by Lyn Collins)
Stacey Q - “2 of Hearts”
With this remix, I didn’t want to pull away too far from the original sound of “Cherry,” but I thought it’d be fun to spice it up as a completely upbeat and maybe even club/dance worthy song.
