LEAK: The Maybe Happening, “Tunnel Under Mountains,” Beyond the Bells (self-released)

1423019676_mWhat a way to start the week! Here we find noise-pop trio the Maybe Happening slightly expanding their guitar-drum-violin base, adding triumphant horn bursts, muted bells and a very pretty opening to this exuberant sing-along ditty. “Hold your breath, cross your fingers, pick your feet up,” sings violinist/frontman Nathan Langston. “Cause we’re going to the city, through the tunnel under mountains.” Haven’t we all been there? And then the breath goes out, the drums come hurtling in, and you realize that “Tunnel Under Mountains” sounds kind of like a less ADD and caffeine-dependent Architecture in Helsinki, all infectious sugar-rush melodies and non-stop momentum. Beyond the Bells drops next week, so think of this as just a little teaser of things to come.
