Love Menu by Emily Katz, “The Dance” (Unreleased)
Certain songs just seem to go with a season. As the weather cools down, the wind picks up and the scarves come out, you need the right song to go with the winter chill. Luckily, Emily Katz—also widely known for her sustainable and organic clothing line—has the perfect prescription for these January days. “The Dance” finds Katz going it alone without her Love Menu bandmates, just the mournful strums of an old autoharp and her spare vocals leading this delicate ode to, you know, getting all hot and bothered. But jeez, that voice—deep, soulful, and truly unforgettable. Katz sounds like Cat Power before she became a Chanel model. It’s been stuck in my head ever since I saw Love Menu a few weeks ago at the Clinton St. Brewery. There are acute, vibrant details in her simple songs, and that’s the key that sets her apart from the glut of singer-songwriter types popping up around the city. Sappy as hell, sure, but sometimes you need a little love to warm you up.

says:Great write up of a great song. Her voice does kind of sound like the cold air leaking in around my window.
