Well, holy crap! Here I was putting this holiday compilation together for LocalCut, and I get this pretty li’l version of “Silent Night” in my inbox. A bit too late for the comp, unfortunately, but not too late to qualify it as a Cut of the Day! Annie Bethancourt is an ex-WW intern, and Ben Meyercord records both eponymously and as a member of Aristeia. Nice to see that these two talents got together and made something warm and comfy and charmingly low-fi (the tape hiss kinda sounds like snow) for the holidays.

I couldn’t believe that I didn’t know any of the words to Silent Night—in fact this whole comp thing has been a lesson in how little I know holiday-tune-wise. Who knew “Silent Night” was such a religious song? Yeah, I know, I’m an idiot.

If I didn’t know better I would have thought that Meyercord was Super XX Man’s Scott Garred, who he sounds an awful lot like on this track.
