Caves, “Metaphysical (Let’s Get)” from Get On With It (self-released)

cavesAbout a week ago, I wrote a kinda playful review of Caves’ new record, Get On With It, that compared the local glam-prog outfit to the Killers—and then made a bunch of caveats about how Caves is actually more eclectic than those bratty lil’ Vegas boys.

While “Metaphysical (”Let’s Get)” is on the more ’80s-channeling, party-startin’ (read: Killers-ish) side of the band’s sound, it does showcase David Benedetti’s prog-tastic guitar and well-exhibit Caves’ knack for angular rhythms, croonery vocals and—most importantly—a damn catchy hook.

Right from that choppy, syncopated intro that’s instantly locked down with an upfront bass line, Caves says (to me, at least), “Tousle that spiky black hair and get your dance on.”

And even though I teased ‘em for the abundance of parenthetically augmented song titles on Get On With It (three in 11 tracks, folks), Jacob Carey’s refrain of “You’re so metaphysical/You’re so/ You’re so intangible” has a nice, rockin’ cadence to it that makes some sense with the inverted, cutesy song title.

Just think of the parenthetical madness once someone cuts the club remix of this track, though (which is totally bound to happen): “Metaphysical (Let’s Get) (so-and-so remix).” Crazy!
