Photo Review: New Young Pony Club at Hawthorne Theatre, Oct. 26, 2007

nypcIMG_0534New Young Pony Club descended on Portland for the first time Friday night as apart of its current North American tour. The tour has brought the band from Canada to the US, east coast to west coast. Opening up the night (a bit later than planned) was local act Reverse Dotty and the Candy Cane Shivs. Around 10 pm, Jaguar Love—a trio made up of two members of the Blood Brothers and a former Pretty Girls make Graves-er—took to the stage to begin its second ever set. When New Young Pony Club gallivanted onto the stage outfitted in monochrome, the quintet’s set included all of its recorded output—from its singles such as “Ice Cream” (which ended up in an Intel advert earlier this year) to current hit “The Bomb” and B-side Squeeze cover, “Take Me, I’m Yours.” The quintet also threw in a cover of Technotronic’s “Pump Up the Jam.” There was a crowd, but there was also room to dance, and the audience took full advantage of the space on the dance floor.
