PDX Pop Now! Announces Second Annual City Hall Kickoff Show

oldtimerelijun01Oooooh, good goddamn, the awesome folks at PDX Pop Now! went straight for my heart with this one. Old Time Relijun and The Watery Graves? Fuck yes. For the second year in a row, Pop Now! will be kicking off their three day, all-ages all-local music fest (August 3-5 at AudioCinema) with a concert on the steps of City Hall. Like the festival itself, this show will be free and feature a few reps from Portland’s city government offering up some words. Expect them to focus on their municipal initiative www.creativecapacity.org, an “effort to forge Portland’s creative community into an effective advocacy group.”

The press release also mentions that “the segment of the public unfamiliar with the city’s burgeoning independent music scene [is] especially encouraged to attend.” I can’t wait to see the looks on the downtown work-a-day faces when OTR’s underwear-clad Arrington De Dionyso loses his shit and turns into a caveman on stage (as is his wont.) On a side note, the upcoming (October) OTR album, Catharsis in Crisis, is rocking my skull inside-out. But, more on that later.
