Scanning some upcoming show listings last week, I couldn’t help but take note of an upcoming CD release show at Dante’s for “Some Big Fat Local Whore.” Needless to say, my curiosity was piqued. I Googled; I found nothing. I searched around on MySpace; I found nothing. So I emailed Dante’s to try to get to the bottom of this clear choice for Band Name of the Week. But only seconds after WW’s illustrious music intern asked me, “Phat or fat?” I had already gotten to the bottom of this week’s Band Name of the Week title-winner. But first let me share the response from last week’s recipient of the BNotW title, dd/mm/yyyy:

DD/MM/YYYY was chosen as our band name as a way to not have a band name. The band wanted a name that would literally change with time. There is no wrong way to say DD/MM/YYYY. You can spell it out or call us “Day Month Year”, or even call out the actual current day month year like 14/06/2007. In America on our tour we have been billed as MM/DD/YYYY, and this is acceptable. Its also about emphasizing the importance of knowing that your always in the present so don’t act like its last year or the seventies. Stay current, know what’s going on–one day we will die, so let’s be friends now.

There you have it. After I somewhat mildly ripped on dd/mm/yyyy for being all artsy and weird with their band name, they go and get, uh, all artsy and weird. Granted, it’s a nice sentiment…I suppose.

I know what you’re really wondering, though: Who the hell is Some Big Fat Local Whore? Well, judging from openers Kleveland–who are known to pal around with none other than Storm Large–the venue hosting the show and the following MySpace show announcement (from Kleveland’s ‘Space), I think it’s fairly obvious:

We are really excited about this show.. it’s our first show in awhile, and it is a CD release party with our friends..uh…Big Fat Local Whore….we have played with this ‘whore’ before, and I can tell you she has REALLY BIG BALLS…..ya’ll do the math on that one.. this will sell out very soon, so get tickets soon!

But, what the heck? BNotW is still gonna contact Storm and see why the show’s being billed this way. (Perhaps it’s a simple case of being too popular to play Dante’s after the whole Rockstar thing.) Can’t hurt to ask, right?
