The Revisions Sign to Dirtnap

doug burnsI actually caught the very first show from the Revisions—which is Doug Burns from the Observers, Daniel Sayer from Clorox Girls, and drummer extraordinaire Derek Skokan—at a reading of Justin Maurer’s Don’t Take Your Life at the Paragon last fall. They weren’t as solid yet then as they are now, but it did strike me eerie and almost western the Observers and Speds material sounded when played acoustic.

A few weeks later, KPSU DJ Arya Imig was chatting me up about how he thought the Revisions were going to win WW’s Best New Bands poll this year. It was then that I realized how much of a crossover their sound is—they’re every bit capable of winning over Indytown USA while keeping the attention of the punk audience that supported the Observers.

Last Friday brought news of the group taking one more step toward world domination. They’ve signed to Dirtnap Records. Ken Cheppaikode, who runs the label, wrote LC to say “I’m pretty psyched,” and also posted this on the Dirtnap site:

Going in a very different direction for both the band members and this label, past and present members of The Observers and The Clorox Girls play acoustic (yes acoustic) PUNK, featuring a few radical re-workings of old Observers and Speds songs, plus tons of spine-chillingly great new material.

Look for their debut LP/CD in August. also around the same time we’ll be releasing the 2nd single from Red Dons, which is the “electric” version of The Revisions. (all three of the Revisions are also in this band, along with Justin Maurer of Clorox Girls)

To celebrate the first Portland band to come on board the Dirtap roster since we moved to Portland a couple of years ago, here’s an entire live Revisions set, recorded live on KPSU a couple of weeks ago! (the first song on there is Defiance, Ohio NOT The Revisions)

Not surprisingly, it’s Imig hosting the show that Ken linked for ya. He says you can expect the Revisions LP in August.
