Sometimes it’s hard to get a band together for practice. But apparently, Jonny Ragel, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist for Boy Eats Drum Machine, simply has to drive around Southeast Portland in his red Mini until his bandmates, Ben Rickard and Peter Swenson spot him and tail him to the basement. At least that’s what happens in this here video for “Eunich” which is a finalist in Paste Magazine’s Rock ‘N’ Reel Festival– alongside the company of the Rapture and Okkervil River–vying for a vague “thousands of dollars in cash prizes.” Say, your video looks really sharp, Jonny, how’d it get made?

“Eunich” bodes pretty well for the Art Institute of Portland, since most of it wouldn’t look out of place on television. So you can click here to go to the contest website to watch the video and vote for it and stuff (voting runs until Nov. 17), but you have to download some player that sponsors the contest. So if you don’t wanna do that (although you might, the Okkervil River video is really cool too), you can watch “Eunich” below and then simply check in at Paste to vote for it. Either way, you ought to see if Ragel drives past your house if you live in Southeast.
